Small Beginnings

In 2012 Richie and Kate Cathcart invited a group of 6 friends to become trustees of Penuel. They shared a heart to see children rescued from situations marked by severe poverty. This group went on to found Penuel Children’s Foundation in 2013.

Now Penuel UK has a board made up of 7 trustees, with Penuel SA’s board consisting of 6 members.

Richie and Kate, are passionate about vulnerable children receiving the love and care they deserve. Between them, they have spent years working with children from backgrounds of deprivation in Africa, South & Central America and Europe. They respite fostered children for 2 years in Northern Ireland.

Small Beginnings

Richie and Kate set up the first Penuel haven in South Africa, in February 2014. Richie’s background is Community Youth Work & Kate’s is Nursing. They were married in 2005 & have 2 amazing boys & one beautiful daughter. Assisting vulnerable children has been a dream for Richie & Kate since they were teenagers. The dream is more about reaching these children wherever they happen to be, than it is about any particular location. In future, they would like to see new projects established worldwide. They desire to see a turning of the tide regarding global issues of motherlessness & fatherlessness. If you would like to know more about Richie & Kate you can read their blog anewthing43.
